How to use it

A big, slow cup, hot or iced

Our numbers for a full mug, with Ovalware's own care notes. Brew it, pour it hot or over ice, then let the dishwasher handle the rest.

Why not brew a full 500 ml? The grounds hold back some water, so 480 g in gives you roughly 420 ml in the mug at 1:16, with room left for cream.

    Brew 30 g of coffee with 480 g of water in a pour over or your usual brewer.

    Pour hot or iced

    The double wall keeps the outside comfortable to hold, and Ovalware says it won't sweat with cold drinks.

About this mug

Will it sweat with iced coffee?

No. Ovalware says the double wall keeps condensation off the outside, so your hand and your table stay dry.

Does the outside get hot?

Not the way a single-wall mug does. Ovalware says the outside stays cool to the touch, even with hot coffee. The rim is a single layer of glass, so you can still feel how hot it is before you sip.

How long does it keep coffee hot?

Longer than a standard ceramic mug, per Ovalware: the air gap between the walls slows heat loss, so coffee stays warmer through a full cup. For hours of heat, Ovalware itself says a vacuum-insulated travel mug will do better.

Is it microwave safe?

Ovalware doesn't list it as microwave safe, so we don't either. Heat your coffee or milk separately, then pour it in.

What are the gray and white finishes?

Ovalware hasn't said what the Stealth Gray and Frost White finishes are made of, so we make no claim about them yet. Clear Glass is borosilicate glass, inside and out.

Does a full pour over fit?

Yes. Each mug holds up to 500 ml (17 oz). Our recipe for the Ovalware Pour Over we carry (30 g of coffee to 480 g of water) yields about 420 ml, which fits one mug with room for cream. Or split it between the pair.

Is it fragile?

Ovalware says it's more resilient than regular glass, and that borosilicate handles hot coffee poured into a cold glass without cracking. It's still glass, though, and it will break if dropped on a hard surface.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

Yes. Ovalware lists it as dishwasher safe and recommends the top rack.
