How it heats

Bonavita's numbers, laid out. Pick a preset or set your own temperature to the degree, and the kettle holds it while you grind and get ready.

  1. Step 1

    Fill

Fill the kettle with fresh water, up to its 1.0 L capacity.

  2. Step 2

    Set

Choose one of the 6 presets, including full boil, or dial in your own temperature to the degree from 140°F.

  3. Step 3

    Hold

The 60-minute hold keeps the water at your set temperature while you grind and get ready.

  4. Step 4

The gooseneck pours a slow, steady stream, so you can wet the grounds evenly and pour in circles.

Ovalware Pour Over set: a 500 ml glass carafe with a dual-layer steel cone filter, next to the Almighty Glass holding coffee beans

Pairs with the Ovalware Pour Over

Ovalware's method is a 30-second bloom, then slow circles, and a gooseneck makes those circles easy to control. The Ovalware Pour Over, which we also carry, makes 2 cups with no paper filters.

Our House Blend

Our flagship. Balanced and all-day drinkable

Bonavita built the Classic around control: a slow, steady gooseneck stream, a pour-over preset and 1-degree accuracy. That's exactly what a good pour over asks for, and our House Blend is where we'd start: a balanced medium roast with a syrupy body and a deep caramel finish.

Set about 200°F, then brew 1:16. 30 g of Whole Bean, ground medium-fine, to 480 g of water, the same recipe we give on the Ovalware Pour Over page. One 12 oz bag makes about 11 brews, and a full kettle covers two.

Double French Coffee by Pure Coffee Club
Brewing French press?

Our Double French is a bold dark roast with a sweet, smoky finish. For a French press, set about 195°F rather than a full boil. Whole Bean, 12 oz, $19.97.

Why it's in the Club

Precise heat, plainly specced

We carry the Classic because it does one job precisely: it heats water to the temperature you set, to within a degree per Bonavita, and holds it for up to an hour. Bonavita states its numbers plainly, and where Bonavita is silent, so are we.

Every product spec below comes from Bonavita's own listing and product photos. If the maker doesn't state a spec, we don't claim it.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

About this kettle

Classic or Cosmopolitan?

Bonavita lists the same core specs for both: 1.0 L, 1200 W, 1-degree accuracy, six presets and a 60-minute hold. The Classic is $99.99 in one finish, with a button panel on its base. The Cosmopolitan is $129.99 in four finishes on a round base.

What temperature for each of your coffees?

Our guidance: about 200°F (93°C) for pour over with our House Blend or Honey Process, and about 195°F for a French press with our Double French. Bonavita's listing names the presets but not their temperatures, so set the exact number yourself when it matters. If a cup tastes sour, go a few degrees hotter; if it tastes bitter, go a few degrees cooler.

Is it good for tea too?

Yes. Three of the six presets are for tea: green, white and oolong. Bonavita says the slow gooseneck stream helps you steep tea at the right pace.

Does it show Fahrenheit or Celsius?

Bonavita quotes temperatures in °F, and its photos show a °F/°C button on the base, next to the display. Some of those photos show the display in Celsius: 93C is about 200°F.

How much counter space does it need?

The base is about 7 by 8 inches (18 by 20.5 cm), and the kettle stands about 9.25 inches (23.5 cm) tall, per Bonavita's dimension photo. The spout and handle reach a little past the base on each side.

Can I use it outside the US?

It's a 110 V appliance made for standard US outlets. Don't use it on 220 to 240 V power, even with a plug adapter, because an adapter doesn't change the voltage.
